Belated news that there was a flight by Airglow at Lasham to celebrate the 50th anniversary of SUMPACs first flight on 9th November. See here for some photos.

More information on the Lasham event here.

Airglow has been refurbished by a team led by Dr Bill Brooks of P&M aviation and has been flying at Cotwolds airport in England. Dr Brooks is a committee member of the RAeS HPAG.

Southampton University is building a new HPA a mere 50 years after the last one they built, to compete in the Kremer sports prize. There is a web site here and a twitter feed here

A new HPA is being built in Yanam, India called Dream fly.

News has reached me of a planned event by RAeS HPAG at Lasham next year, see events.

 A new HPA is being designed and built by students of Sherbrooke University in Quebec called Pégase in Canada, See here for more information. English version is available.

This site has just announced an on-line symposium on human powered flight. See symposium.

Jesse van Kuijk is flying again this year and has made a number of short flights.

There is a new web site for a tailless an aircraft called Carbon Condor.

First human powered flight in the Netherlands on 9th August 2009 by Jesse van Kuijk, a 19 year old student at Delft university in a HPA named Abhilasha at Kempen Airport. See his web site here for more information

News has recently reached me of a new and as yet unnamed HPA under construction. (See below).Update. It is now called “Betterfly”

Iron Butterfly is still under construction at Virginia Tech, USA.

Zephyrus is another HPA aiming at the Kremer sports prize under construction at Penn State University, see the library for details.

Events

Bognor Birman was on September 11th and 12th, see http://www.birdman.org.uk/. The Worthing Birdman last year was August 14th and 15th, see http://www.worthingbirdman.co.uk/ for results and how to enter this year’s contest.

The Japanese birdman event last year (2010) was on July 24th and 25th. Meister won with a distance of 18,556.82m. It is in July this year.

The RAeS HPAG is hosting an event at Lasham, Hampshire, England in 2012 between the Saturday 14th and Sunday 22nd July. That’s just before the Olympics in London starting on 27th July.
